August 11th, 2016

Jockey Damien Oliver is pleased to have picked up the ride on Miss Rose De Lago in Saturday’s 2016 PB Lawrence Stakes (1400m), and is confident the mare is in the right form to post a first-up win in the feature race at Caulfield.

A former Perth galloper, Miss Rose De Lago has been a strong and consistent performer throughout her entire racing career so far, but has undoubtedly kicked up a class since transferring to the care of Danny O’Brien prior to her 2015 campaign.

Oliver was given the opportunity to return to the saddle of multiple Group 1 winner Suavito for her return in the PB Lawrence Stakes 2016, but told Racing Victoria he has been particularly impressed with the form and class displayed by the Encosta De Lago mare in the lead-up to her spring campaign.

“They trialled against each other, I actually rode Suavito and I rode Miss Rose De Lago in her first trial, she trialled well her first trial and they trialled against each other in their second,” Oliver said.

“Miss Rose De Lago trialled very well and Suavito, she was worse than what she normally trials, well actually worse than she normally does, she can trial poorly, I had to go with Miss Rose De Lago from the trials.

“That is not to say Suavito won’t come out and run well, she has done it in the past I just chose to go with Miss Rose De Lago.

“She is quite forward, she is a mare that likes to be up on speed and the race will be strongly run with The Cleaner and Lord Of The Sky in it, she is ready to run well.”

Returning last spring for success in the Champagne Pommery Masters Handicap (1800m), Miss Rose De Lago progressed to fourth in the Group 2 Let’s Elope Stakes (1400m) before winning the Group 3 Ladies Day Vase (1600m) on October 14th.

Sent for a spell after failing to beat a single runner home in the Group 1 Myer Classic (1600m) on Derby Day, the mare out of Crimson Dawn resumed this year for third in the Group 3 Mannerism Stakes (1400m) on February 27th.

Progressing to fourth in the Group 3 Schweppervescence Trophy (1600m), Miss Rose De Lago charged home to win the Group 2 Sunline Stakes (1600m) on March 24th before ending her season ninth in the Group 1 Queen Of The Turf Stakes (1600m).

Ladbrokes.com.au is currently offering Miss Rose De Lago at 2016 PB Lawrence Stakes odds of $7.50 for success.
